Description/Job Summary


The Unit Coordinator will Maintain and organize nurses' work station to promote efficiency and safety including: Coordinate activities & materials at the nurses' station.   Answer telephone calls directed to the nurses' station and route appropriately.  Keep nurses' station supplies and Forms Rack stocked.  Supervise the authorized release of medical information, written or verbal, following all rules and regulations regarding privileged communications (confidentiality) by reviewing each request to determine status of requester, priority classification and adequacy of patient identification data.  Ensure compliance with legal regulatory and accrediting agencies pursuant to storage and retrieval of medical records.  Monitor open charts for order completeness, maintain unit log books, input and assist in maintaining data for census, shift report and other designated reports.  Transcribe physicians' orders to appropriate Medication Record (MAR) and patient care card (Kardex) and monitor for accuracy and completeness.  Make appointments for patients as necessary for labs, procedures, consults, etc. and notify Charge Nurse so that transportation can be arranged.  Maintain/file all appropriate paperwork pertaining to Baker Act patients including: Involuntary admissions.   Scheduling 2nd opinions when needed.   Notification of Court Withdrawal of Petition for Hearing on Involuntary Placement.  Deliver Baker Act papers to Deputy Clerk at City Courthouse as needed.  Notify staff or appropriate person(s) of missing or incorrect information in files and charts (e.g., treatment plans, service plans, addendums and other documentation) before placing the files or charts in designated locations.

  • Must have a high school diploma OR GED equivalent and (4) four years of related experience 
  • OR a certificate as a ward clerk/unit coordinator.
