Description/Job Summary


The Prevention Counselor has the primary responsibility of coordinating and providing prevention classes and/or activities to enhance the student’s academic, social, and personal skills.  Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQUIP) activities. Plans and conducts activities for children in prevention settings.   Develops lesson plans and related prevention activities necessary for the establishment and maintenance of assigned activities as appropriate. Confers with participants, participant’s teachers, and team members regarding academic, social, and personal problems as necessary.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, social work, counseling, rehabilitation, or a related human services field (a related human services field is one in which major course work includes the study of human behavior and development) and one (1) year experience in direct service to individuals with substance abuse, mental health or co-occurring conditions
  • Must be able to provide individualized, integrated mental health, substance abuse and co-occurring services to meet the needs of individuals served and their families
  • Must be able to use a computer
  • Must be able to pass a background check
